South of Charleston

Nearing Paris Island..
Tomorrow we'll aim for Hilton Head Island.
We're closing in on our anchorage for the night after doing about 51 miles today.
51 miles (1 more then the average for sailboaters on the ICW) is awesome considering the conditions today.
It was very windy, we were heading into it all day, and we fought the tidal currents too.
At times we were doing 3 or 4 knots/hour!
1 small stretch (about the length of a football field) was called "Elliot's cut".
It was very narrow and we were fighting a 4 knot current!
In that stretch we were barely making headway at times, hovering at a forward net speed of about 2 Kts/hr!!!!! WHEW! I was white knuckling it for about 20 minutes!!
More pics tonight when we stop :)
PS, I've been told by several blog followers that they can't wait to login to see what's up.
I do the same each day to read the comments ;) hint

  1. Yo Mike I'm not sure my last comment was posted but, it's history now, anyway.

Charleston should be exciting, as well as Savannah.

The Satilla River has almost peaked at its highest since 1998, so they say. Very big rains up river and it's just now getting down here. Keep in mind, there isn't a dam on the Satilla, it's free flowing ! Not sure if that will affect you or not, but it's coming down river, SWIFT and emptying into the Sound.

Weather is breezy today and some chance of rain predicted for next week.

BTW, I'm on Spring Break now...just so you know if you arrive anytime before next Sunday, we will be available 24/7 and always have our cell phones with us.

Woodbine Crawfish Festival is the last Saturday of April, you'll probably be here and gone by then, but Hugo Duarte will be playing @ Capt. Stan's for the Festival. Possibly both Fri night and Sat afternoon and night...
